Have you ever heard of a statue that is supposed to be the tallest in the world? The Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue in Mumbai is supposed to be a towering monument to a great warrior king. This statue, though still under construction, is going to stand 212 meters tall. Can you imagine that? It will be an incredible feat of engineering and will be located right here, in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Mumbai.
The statue is being built on a manmade island, a little more than a kilometer away from the famous Girgaum Chowpatty beach. It will be truly a sight to behold. The statue itself will be 75.7 meters tall, featuring the king on horseback. He’ll even be holding a sword, reaching an additional 45.5 meters in height. The foundation for this enormous statue will be built from reclaimed basalt and rubble from the Colaba-SEEPZ metro tunnel.
Many challenges have stood in the way of constructing this monument. Its completion was initially scheduled for 2021 but was pushed back to 2022 due to delays related to the pandemic. Some people even argue that the money allocated for the project would be better spent on maintaining Shivaji’s forts across Maharashtra.
Despite some controversy, the Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue, once completed, will be a source of pride for all of India. It will stand as a permanent reminder of the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, reminding us of his bravery, his resilience, and the importance of his contribution to India’s history.
