“A university chapel? Isn’t that a bit unusual?” a student wondered aloud, standing in front of the Chapelle APU Ankatso I. The Chapelle APU Ankatso I, nestled within the bustling campus of the University of Antananarivo, might seem out of place to some. Yet it stands as a testament to the intertwining of faith and education in Malagasy culture. The University of Antananarivo, a beacon of knowledge since its inception in 1955, has always sought to nurture the whole individual. The chapel, established later, serves as a place for students, faculty, and staff to find solace, seek guidance, and nurture their spiritual side. Though seemingly small within the grand university complex, the Chapelle APU Ankatso I is a powerful symbol. It reminds us that education extends beyond textbooks and lectures, encompassing the spiritual and ethical dimensions of life.
