The chapel itself, however, was a later addition, designed by the renowned Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi and completed in 1933. You might notice that both the chapel and the college bear the name “Terra Sancta,” which means “Holy Land” in Latin. Originally, they bore the Italian version of the name, “Terra Santa.” However, due to political tensions during World War II, the name was changed to its Latin form as Italy was considered an enemy of the British Empire, which ruled Palestine at the time.
