Did you know Chapel One at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph has stood for nearly a century? Built in 1934 this isn’t just any chapel. It’s a spiritual haven for Airmen a testament to faith and history. Chapel One’s Spanish style is captivating. It’s modeled after San Antonio’s historic Missions Concepcion and San Jose. This architectural homage is truly special. Notice the rose window a near perfect replica of Mission San Jose’s. It’s a stunning stained glass masterpiece. One of the finest in the entire Air Force.

Chapel One wasn’t deemed “mission-essential” initially. That’s why it was completed a few years after the rest of the base. Construction cost $66000 quite a sum back then. The chapel has six unique stained-glass windows. Each window commemorates different airmen and heroes. Gertrude Lahm wife of Brigadier General Frank Lahm is honored there too. The absence of a cupola on the right tower is intentional. The Spanish avoided taxes on unfinished buildings. Chapel One cleverly mirrors this tradition blending history and cleverness.

Chapel One is more than just a building. It’s a place of profound significance. Major Thomas McGuire an Air Force ace was married here. He tragically died in 1945. His story and others are woven into the very fabric of this chapel. Every pew whispers tales of faith sacrifice and service. It is a unique building. It is a historic building. It is a spiritual building. Chapel One is a true jewel of Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. A place where the past and present beautifully intertwine. A place where history faith and the spirit of the Air Force unite.
