A sprawling metropolis unfolds before you. This is Changping District. Changping’s history stretches back to the Han Dynasty. Jundu County then administered this area. Changping and Jundu existed separately for centuries. Their territories shifted under different dynasties. During the Ming Dynasty Changping became a subprefecture. It oversaw Miyun Shunyi and Huairou counties. Later these counties were transferred to Shuntian Prefecture. After the Xinhai Revolution Changping reverted to a county. Finally in 1956 it joined Beijing from Hebei Province.

Changping District today boasts a substantial population. It’s the most populous suburban district in Beijing. The 2020 census recorded over two million inhabitants. This represents a significant increase from the 2000 census. Changping’s development is truly remarkable. It covers a vast area over 1350 square kilometers.

Yet Changping is more than just numbers. Its geographical position is key. Nestled between plains and mountains its landscape offers incredible diversity. The mountains to the northwest make up almost 60 percent of the district. This varied terrain contributes to the rich natural resources. The mineral deposits and agricultural bounty of Changping are renowned. This district also benefits from its proximity to Beijing’s center. It’s just 34 kilometers away.

Many impressive sights await you in Changping District. The Ming Tombs are a must-see. They stand as a testament to the imperial past. Also consider visiting the Datangshan museum. For sports enthusiasts the triathlon venue from the 2008 Olympics is another highlight. Beyond the historical and sporting attractions Changping offers stunning natural beauty. The scenic spots attract many visitors. They provide tranquility and escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.

From the high-tech industries to the bustling urban areas of Changping the district is a vibrant hub. Nankou and Yangfang are major urban centers in their own right. They add to Changping’s dynamism. Yet amidst this modernity Changping retains its agricultural roots. Apples and strawberries are famous local products.

Changping’s transport links are also excellent. The Beijing Subway is extensive. Four metro lines and one suburban railway line serve the district. This makes getting around convenient. Changping’s growth extends to education. Several prestigious universities are here. These include the China University of Petroleum and Peking University. The blend of history technology and natural beauty makes Changping a unique place.
