Nestled against the backdrop of the Rose Bowl and Arroyo Seco, Chandler School has been shaping young minds since 1950. The Chandler School wasn’t always located here in Pasadena. It began its journey in Altadena with just fourteen students in grades four through eight. Founded by Thomas and Catherine Chandler, the school quickly outgrew its original home. In 1958, thanks to the dedication of forty families who helped raise the down payment, Chandler School moved to its current location on Armada Drive. The campus began with just two buildings and an athletic field, built little by little with donated materials and labor. Imagine the community spirit it took to build this school, piece by piece! The first kindergarten class joined the Chandler School family in 1963. The South Campus was added in the early 1970s. The school continued to grow, adding a gymnasium in 1981. Over the years, Chandler School has seen its share of remarkable individuals walk its halls. Author Charles Webb, who wrote *The Graduate*, is a Chandler alumnus. So is John Battelle, author, journalist, and co-founder of *Wired* magazine. And let’s not forget professional golfer, Mo Martin! In 2011, Chandler School welcomed its largest student body ever, 450 students, to the newly renovated South Campus. This campus boasts a state-of-the-art Middle School classroom building, a renovated gym, and an outdoor sports court. Chandler School is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place where students from kindergarten through eighth grade discover a love of learning, a way to think independently, and the ability to work collaboratively. It’s a testament to the vision of Thomas and Catherine Chandler, whose legacy continues to inspire young minds today.
