Originally, Chalmette High School was known as Arabi High School. It adopted the name Chalmette Senior High School in 1954 when it relocated to the site of the current Chalmette Elementary School. The school moved again in 1962 to its current location. Chalmette High School boasts a rich history, deeply intertwined with the spirit of its community. It faced a tremendous challenge in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the area. The school, severely damaged, became a beacon of resilience. It reopened in a makeshift setup in the stadium parking lot, showcasing the community’s determination. With the aid of FEMA funding, Chalmette High School underwent a remarkable rebuilding process, emerging stronger than ever before.
