“Can you imagine the creatures that lived in these rivers centuries ago?” our guide asked, leading us toward the Centro de Educação Ambiental das Ribeiras de Gaia. The Centro de Educação Ambiental das Ribeiras de Gaia, better known as CEARG, is a fascinating place dedicated to showcasing the importance of riverside habitats. It was fascinating to learn that since its inauguration in 2002, the CEARG has been a hub for environmental education. Inside, we found aquariums teeming with species native to the Vila Nova de Gaia rivers. The exhibits, both temporary and permanent, provided a wealth of information. The Centro de Educação Ambiental das Ribeiras de Gaia even houses a library and a dedicated room for monitoring the water quality of the Ribeira do Espírito Santo. It’s incredible how the Centro de Educação Ambiental das Ribeiras de Gaia seamlessly blends education and conservation.
