Ever wondered how a pastoral training institute transformed into one of Ghana’s largest private universities? That’s the story of Central University College – Mataheko Campus.

Let’s explore the journey of Central University College – Mataheko Campus together. It began as Central Bible College in 1988. The International Central Gospel Church ICGC founded it. The initial aim was to train pastors.

In 1993, it expanded. Academic courses were added such as Economics and Computer Science. It was then renamed Central Christian College. The vision was to provide integrated and biblically based education. It focused on the needs of the African continent.

Further growth led to another renaming in 1997. It became Central University College. In 1998, the National Accreditation Board accredited it. A significant move occurred in 2007. The campus shifted from Accra to Miotso.

Now, Central University has five campuses. The Mataheko campus is strategically located in Accra near Kaneshie.

Central University College – Mataheko Campus is part of a larger network. It has campuses in Miotso, Dansoman and Kumasi. Each location caters to specific faculties.

Here at Mataheko, lecture halls and administrative offices thrive. The Central Business School benefits from this location. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences also operates here.

Central University is made up of several schools and faculties. These include the School of Theology and Missions and the Central Business School. Also included are the School of Applied Sciences, the Graduate School of Business, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Law.

The Central Business School was established in 1997. It offers departments such as Accounting and Finance. Human Resource Management and Marketing are also taught.

Did you know Central University has affiliations with other universities? These include the University of Cape Coast and the University of Ghana. It’s also linked to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Rev Dr Mensa Otabil has been the chancellor since 1997. Key figures have shaped Central University College – Mataheko Campus over the years.

Central University received a Presidential Charter in 2016. This marked its transition to a fully fledged university. Solar energy use began in 2019. This reduces electricity costs.
