Kolkata’s metro system pulses beneath the city. But here, at the Central Park Metro Depot, we witness the system’s beating heart. This depot, opened in 2018, isn’t just a parking space for trains. It’s a vital hub for the Green Line, ensuring its smooth operation. The Central Park Metro Depot, nestled above the 3rd Avenue between Central Park and Bikash Bhawan, is a modern marvel of engineering. It’s a testament to Kolkata’s commitment to efficient and sustainable public transport. Initially built to house 23 rakes, the depot is undergoing expansion. By 2026, it will accommodate 29 rakes, supporting the addition of eleven new six-car trains. This expansion within its 38.5-acre footprint underscores the depot’s crucial role in the city’s evolving transportation needs. Interestingly, the Central Park Metro Depot stands out as the only standard gauge depot in the Kolkata metro system. This distinguishes it from other depots like Noapara, Tollygunge, New Garia, and Joka, which operate on broad gauge. The station itself, located right above, connects seamlessly with auto and bus routes. These include 44A, 206, 211B, 215A/1, 239, 260, KB16, KB22, K1, S171 (Mini), S16, and S30A.
