Can a church be more than just a building? Absolutely. Centinela Four Square Gospel Church, right here on Centinela Avenue, is a testament to that. Centinela Four Square Gospel Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant piece of Inglewood’s spiritual tapestry. Inglewood is home to a diverse array of faiths, boasting approximately 117 churches. Among them, Centinela Four Square Gospel Church stands out as part of the Foursquare denomination. The Foursquare Church has a unique history rooted in missions and evangelism. Its origins trace back to Aimee Semple McPherson. In 1910, a 20-year-old widowed Aimee returned from a mission in China. By 1918, she had begun her evangelistic journey across the United States. She eventually established Los Angeles as her base in December 1918. Years later, in January 1923, the first Foursquare church, Angelus Temple, opened its doors in Los Angeles. The very next month, the first Foursquare Bible institute, now known as Life Pacific University, was established. This marked a commitment to training future ministers. By October 1923, the Foursquare movement expanded with a church plant in Long Beach, California. The growth continued, and by December 1927, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG) was incorporated. Today, the ICFG has a global presence with over 8.8 million members in over 100,000 churches across more than 150 nations. Centinela Four Square Gospel Church is a part of this expansive and historically significant movement.
