How do you think Centennial Lutheran Church in Englewood Colorado came to be? Centennial Lutheran Church started to form as a congregation September 13, 1959. 136 people gathered then in a building that contained a chapel, office, and Sunday School room.
On January 17, 1960, 138 people signed a membership charter. Centennial Lutheran Church became an official congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Since its formation, the building and the people of Centennial Lutheran Church have changed. In 1988, Centennial Lutheran Church became part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This means it partners with many congregations. It recognizes communion with people of many denominations and backgrounds. Centennial Lutheran Church invites all people to participate in worship and social life.
What does Centennial Lutheran Church do? They feed people. As good Lutherans, and most Christians do, they gather weekly at the Lord’s Table for communion. From there, they gather around food for fellowship. They love to host meals for the congregation and community.
For the past 7 years, Centennial Lutheran Church has run the Food Pantry. This bi-monthly ministry gathers non-perishable food items. Then, they offer them to families and individuals in the area. The pantry is open on the first and third Wednesday each month.

Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior Nebraska also has a rich history. Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior started December 5, 1937. Evening services were held in the dining room of the city auditorium. Rev. O.W. Juengel led the services. The following Sunday, they moved to the council room of the auditorium. Immediately, they began to look toward the future.
A Constitution was adopted August 7, 1938. It was signed August 22. The congregation met to elect its first officers then. The name Centennial was chosen to commemorate the 100th anniversary. It marked the Saxon immigration to which the Lutheran Church traces its beginning.
September 1, 1939, the church decided to request membership in the Lutheran Church. In June 1941, the church purchased its first building at 8th and Kansas. Soon, a church property at 9th and Dakota became available. Negotiations began in August 1944. The purchase was completed in October.
In 1951, the original parsonage was sold. The current parsonage was built on the site of the present fellowship hall. Since Palm Sunday 1952, the morning services of Centennial have been aired on KRFS. KRFS is the local radio station. God has blessed this mission venture.
In 1976, it was decided to move the parsonage to the south. This was to construct a fellowship hall. In June 1977, this work was completed. In 1988, Centennial Lutheran Church celebrated 50 years. The theme was Remembering, Rejoicing, Rededicating. Now Centennial has had over 80 years of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They have ministered throughout south Central Nebraska and North Central Kansas. They look forward to many more years of serving God in his kingdom here.
