Established in 1999 Centenary State High School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the vision of a community. This school wasn’t always here. The land was once sparse bushland. Local residents lobbied hard for a high school. Their persistence paid off. The Queensland Government finally agreed. Centenary State High School opened its doors. It initially catered to a limited number of grades. Demand was high. Students no longer had to travel far. They could attend a school in their own neighbourhood. Enrolment numbers quickly soared.
Centenary State High School’s name reflects its location. It sits within Brisbane’s Centenary Suburbs. These suburbs were developed after Queensland’s Centenary celebrations. LJ Hooker spearheaded the project. It involved a large residential development. A bridge connected the new development to the western suburbs of Brisbane. The area was initially called the Hooker Centenary Development. The name stuck. The suburbs were officially named Centenary Suburbs. Jindalee Mt Ommaney Jamboree Heights Middle Park Riverhills and Westlake are part of this area.
Centenary State High School has a unique house system. Each house is named after a road bordering the school. Curragundi Jarup Moolanda and Yallambee Roads inspired the house names. Students are assigned to houses. The houses compete in various activities and events fostering school spirit and camaraderie. The school has a rich history. It has seen many students graduate. Students participate in many different sports. This includes rugby league rugby union soccer volleyball netball basketball and more. The school’s sports teams are known as the Crocodiles. Their mascot is Crusha the Croc. The school has achieved success in various sporting competitions. It’s a place where students can excel academically and athletically.
