Cast in bronze, the Cendrillon – Assepoester statue stands as a testament to a fairytale. Right here in Josaphat Park, Cendrillon, also known as Assepoester, is frozen in a moment of quiet contemplation. Created by Edmond Lefever, this isn’t just any statue. This Cendrillon – Assepoester won a medal at exhibitions in faraway Australia, in Port Adelaide and Melbourne. She graced exhibitions in Paris and Berlin, captivating audiences with her quiet charm. The year was 1881 when Cendrillon – Assepoester first emerged from the Compagnie des Bronzes foundry. Lefever himself requested the municipality acquire the statue. They placed her here, in Josaphat Park, in 1905. The statue stands 123 cm tall, a small but significant figure. She’s cast in bronze, atop a blue hardstone pedestal that bears the inscriptions “Cie des Bronzes Bruxelles” and “Edmond LEFEVER,” marking her origins and creator. Cendrillon – Assepoester embodies a timeless story, inviting us to dream of fairytale endings, even amidst the everyday beauty of Josaphat Park.
