“The horse of Borràs”. That sounds like a tale, doesn’t it? Welcome to Cavall d’en Borràs. This beach owes its name to a horse. Back in 1850, Antonio Borràs owned a horse that lived in this area. Hence the name, “Cavall d’en Borràs”.
Here at Cavall d’en Borràs beach, feel the fine white sand beneath your feet. This long and narrow beach is easily accessible. Many tourists visit it. They come from the port of La Savina. You can walk here from La Savina in about 20 to 30 minutes.
Look around. Cavall d’en Borràs is part of the Ses Salines Natural Park. It is the southernmost beach of Illetas. This beach is not technically within the peninsula of Illetas. However, it is included because of its proximity.
Notice the path running parallel to the shore. It once served a different purpose. Wagons loaded with salt traveled on rails here. The salt came from the salt mines heading to La Savina. Salt mining stopped in the 1980s. The road was then adapted for pedestrians.
Now, let’s talk about the water. It’s generally calm here. However, watch out for larger waves. They occur every 30 to 40 minutes. These are caused by boats heading to Ibiza. If you’re too close to the shore, your belongings might get wet. The water depth increases gradually. You will be covered at about 10 to 15 meters from the shore.
Be sure not to miss the sunset at Cavall d’en Borràs. Many say it is the best on Formentera. You can see Ibiza and the islet of Es Vedrà. The dark silhouettes of the neighboring islands create a dreamlike view. Many ships also anchor here to enjoy the view.
Behind us, you can see a dune system. Lush pine trees and shrubs cover it. This natural habitat protects the coast from erosion. It also provides shade on hot days. The vegetation extends to the Estany Pudent lagoon. This creates a unique landscape.
Feel free to spend the day relaxing. You can bring everything you need. Or you can visit one of the beach bars. These chiringuitos offer drinks and food.
If you are looking for a lively experience, visit Cala Duo. It has engaging music. It is located towards La Savina. It faces a stretch of sea. The view of the port in the distance is suggestive.
Remember the bench. It has a romantic inscription. “No hay verano sin beso”. That is “there’s no summer without a kiss”.
Soak in the atmosphere. Es Cavall d’en Borràs offers the most beautiful sunset of Formentera. As the sun touches the horizon, the atmosphere fills with magic. The warm colors create a romantic atmosphere. This moment is perfect for reflection. Let yourself be carried away by the beauty of nature.
