“This bridge feels unfinished,” a skeptical voice muttered from the back of our group. You’re right, it does, doesn’t it? That’s because the Cầu Ông Nhiêu bridge, towering over the Ông Nhiêu canal we see here, has been under construction since December 2017. This ambitious project, spearheaded by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, aims to improve traffic flow and enhance the beauty of the area. The plan is to create a vital artery for transporting goods and people, reducing congestion on Nguyen Duy Trinh Street. The new Cầu Ông Nhiêu bridge will stretch an impressive 725 meters, reaching nearly 20 meters wide, and costing a whopping 763 billion dong. It’s a testament to the city’s commitment to modernization. However, the bridge’s journey hasn’t been without its bumps. Site clearance and compensation issues have caused significant delays, leaving the bridge at a standstill since 2018. For now, traffic continues to flow across the existing bridge. Residents, while dealing with the inconvenience, eagerly await the completion of the new Cầu Ông Nhiêu bridge, hoping it will usher in an era of smoother commutes and enhanced connectivity for their community.
