Picture this. You are standing before Cascina Panzone a sprawling complex in the southwest of Rodano. It’s more than just a farmhouse. It’s a living testament to centuries of agricultural life in Lombardy.

Cascina Panzone or Panzona as it’s sometimes called has a history stretching back to the 16th century. Its structures a mix of brickwork and rustic stone tell a silent story of generations. Think of the families who toiled here. Imagine their lives unfolding within these very walls.

The main courtyard a rectangle of weathered stone is the heart of Cascina Panzone. Buildings surround it workers’ dwellings stables and the impressive farmhouse itself. To the north you see the workers’ homes. A two-story building with a distinctive beola stone balcony and wrought-iron railings. It’s seen better days its materials showing the wear of time and disuse. Yet somehow the beauty remains.

To the east is a vast stable with a loft above. This stable uses rustic stone blocks at its base. Notice the nearby water channel perhaps once full of life now dry. The south holds a barn its brick pillars standing guard over years of harvested bounty. To the west is another stable. It features rustic stone columns topped with neoclassical capitals a testament to architectural styles blending across time.

Cascina Panzone wasn’t always as you see it. Records from San Carlo Borromeo’s pastoral visit in 1569 mention it. Later cadastral maps show its growth and changes. The addition of an L-shaped building later demolished and the gradual evolution of its current layout are recorded within these historic documents. The Cascina even survived the merging of Cassignanica into Briavacca in 1841 and the incorporation into the Rodano municipality.

Even today Cascina Panzone continues to function. Parts are used as a farmhouse stables and for storing agricultural equipment. Its history blends seamlessly into its current purpose. A reminder that the past is never truly gone. It’s alive in the stones the structures and the stories whispered on the breeze across the fields.

As you leave Cascina Panzone let the image of this enduring farmhouse remain with you. It’s a monument to the resilience of rural life and the lasting impact of generations of families who made it their home. A place that speaks of rich history and lasting human connections.
