The Casa memorială Sfântul Cuvios Gheorghe de la Cernica was built during Saint George’s leadership. He was the Abbot from 1781 to 1806. The structure reflects the Athonite style. It served as a retreat for peace and quiet.
According to Casian Cernicanul, the Abbot’s cell was completed in 1783. The cell had three rooms. It also had a chapel dedicated to the Entry into the Church of the Mother of God.
During the summer, the Abbot would retreat here. He brought two disciples with him. They spent their time in prayer and quiet contemplation. After Abbot George’s death in 1806, other monastery figures occupied the cell. These included Abbot Timotei and Bishop Ioanichie Stratonikios.
In 2005, the cell was transformed. It became the Casa memorială Sfântul Gheorghe de la Cernica. This happened when Abbot George was canonized.
