For years, Casa Bonita drew crowds. People came for the atmosphere. The food? Well, that was another story. Critics often joked about it. Casa Bonita was known for its consistently mediocre cuisine. Yet, people kept coming back.
Inside Casa Bonita, mariachis strolled. Flame jugglers entertained. Wild West shootouts erupted. Brawling pirates roamed. A dancing gorilla delighted guests. A puppet theater showcased shows. Black Bart’s Cave offered a haunted tunnel. An arcade buzzed with activity. Magic filled the air.
Casa Bonita faced challenges. The restaurant closed temporarily in 2020. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The owner filed for bankruptcy in 2021. It seemed like the end.
But, Casa Bonita’s story didn’t end there. South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone stepped in. They purchased the restaurant in 2021. They wanted to save this beloved landmark.
Parker and Stone invested millions. Forty million dollars to be exact. They renovated Casa Bonita. They hired Chef Dana Rodriguez. She updated the menu. The goal was to keep the charm. They also wanted to improve the food.
Casa Bonita reopened in 2023. The Greatest Restaurant in the World. That’s what they called it. Reservations became hard to get. People were eager to experience the new Casa Bonita.
The South Park connection runs deep. A 2003 episode featured Casa Bonita. The show’s creators even named their studio after the restaurant. References to South Park appear throughout Casa Bonita now. Eric Cartman’s table is there. You can even meet ManBearPig.
