Isn’t it remarkable how a vision can spark a movement? That is exactly what happened with the Foursquare Church. Here we are at Carson Hope Chapel Foursquare Church. Let’s delve into the story of the Foursquare Church.

The Foursquare Church’s story begins with Aimee Semple McPherson. In 1922, McPherson had a vision of the Foursquare Gospel. This vision defined the church’s core message. It represents Jesus as Savior, Baptizer with the Holy Spirit, Healer, and Soon Coming King. In January 1923, she founded the first Foursquare Church in Los Angeles. This was during the dedication of Angelus Temple.

McPherson was quite the personality. She participated in publicity events. Weekly Sunday parades through Los Angeles were common. The mayor and movie stars even joined her en route to Angelus Temple. She built the temple and Life Pacific University. Both stand on land she owned in the city center.

After McPherson’s death in 1944, her son Rolf K. McPherson took over. He led the church for 44 years. The Foursquare Church helped form the Pentecostal Fellowship of North America in 1948.

Over the years, the Foursquare Church has seen its share of challenges. In 2004, financial losses due to failed investments led to resignations. Controversies arose again in 2013 with a Broadway play investment. The play was about Aimee Semple McPherson’s life.

Despite these difficulties, the Foursquare Church has continued. Key leaders helped the denomination survive financial setbacks. As of 2022, the Foursquare Church has grown significantly. There are 67,500 churches globally with 8.8 million members. These members spread across 150 countries.

The Foursquare Church has specific beliefs. They believe in the Bible’s inspiration and the Trinity. They also believe in Jesus Christ’s deity. Salvation is through grace and faith. The church practices baptism by immersion and Holy Communion. They also practice anointing of the sick and tithing.

The Foursquare Church has a unique structure. The Foursquare Convention is the main decision-making body. It includes international officers and licensed ministers. A board of directors manages the church. They appoint officers and oversee church activities.

Local Foursquare churches are part of the international church. They operate according to the international church’s bylaws. There are different categories of Foursquare churches.

The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel identifies Carson Hope Chapel Foursquare Church as a subordinate in a group ruling. The IRS assigned the unique EIN number 95-3794791 to Carson Hope Chapel Foursquare Church. It obtained its IRS ruling year in 1949.
