In 2013, Carreira merged with Refojos de Riba de Ave to create a new parish. But the spirit of Carreira, nestled in the Leça Valley near Santo Tirso, Portugal, remains. Carreira, once its own distinct village, still whispers tales of its past. Imagine a community of 982 souls, according to the 2001 census, calling Carreira home. The village stretched across 3.45 square kilometers. Life in Carreira was a blend of residential tranquility and agricultural pursuits. The land nourished them, as did the nearby city of Santo Tirso, only 4 kilometers away. Many residents found work there. Carreira had its own heart, its own rhythm. The local sports club, A.D.R. Santiaguense, brought the community together. Cheers echoed through the valley, celebrating victories and commiserating losses. Carreira, although officially merged, continues to hold a unique place within the tapestry of the Leça Valley. Its spirit, like the echoes of those cheers, persists.
