Right here stands Carolina Bay Church. It is a beacon of faith and community. Its story is one of transformation and dedication.
Carolina Bay Church wasn’t always called that. It began as Saint Andrews Homes Mission in 1966. This mission was under the wing of Ashley River Baptist Church. Ashley River Baptist Church owes its existence to Citadel Square Baptist Church. Citadel Square Baptist Church was established by Charleston First Baptist Church.
In 1966, the mission changed its name to St. Andrews Homes Baptist Chapel. Then in 1969, it became Sycamore Avenue Baptist Chapel. Finally, in 1975, it achieved self-sufficiency. The chapel was then constituted into Sycamore Avenue Baptist Church. A significant milestone occurred in February 1981. The first service was held in the new Sycamore Baptist Church on Highway 17.
The church underwent another name change in July 2006. It was then that it became Carolina Bay Church. A new chapter began on November 1, 2009. Pastor Michael Rucker was called to lead the congregation.
