“Victory Park” doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like Carlson Park. This is Carlson Park. We stand at a place initially named for a general feeling of success. Its story quickly took a more personal turn.
In 1927, Culver City Council made a decision. They chose this space for their first park. The mayor’s wife felt it was a victory to secure a park. Hence the name “Victory Park.”
But tragedy and admiration soon reshaped its identity. Dr. Paul Carlson, a Culver City resident, met a martyr’s end in 1964 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. His death drew national attention. To honor him, the park was renamed Dr. Paul Carlson Park. Most simply call it Carlson Park.
Carlson Park occupies 2.66 acres. It sits in the heart of the Carlson Park neighborhood. Braddock Drive, Motor Avenue, Le Bourget Avenue, and Park Avenue border it. This makes it easily accessible for residents.
The park is designed for relaxation. It offers open grassy areas perfect for picnics. You will find picnic and barbecue facilities here. These encourage community gatherings.

Consider using the picnic shelter. It has four sixteen-foot picnic tables. It can accommodate up to 50 people. Permits are available every day from 9 am to 6 pm. This makes it easy to plan a gathering.
