More than just a football pitch the Carlisle Grounds hosted diverse events. Roller-skating was a surprising addition between 1876 and 1880. Flower shows croquet and even firework displays drew crowds to Bray. Hackney carriages waited outside to take visitors on tours.

William Murray and John Aitken scored for Dundalk. Johnny Payne’s goal secured the draw. A large crowd attended this historic match.

The Carlisle Grounds has seen numerous changes. New seating was added in 1999. Bray Urban District Council granted Bray Wanderers FC a 35-year lease in 2001. The grass bank behind the goals was removed in 2016. Despite these changes the Carlisle Grounds retains its unique charm. It continues to serve as a vibrant sporting hub. Its history is woven into its very fabric. The Carlisle Grounds is a testament to Bray’s sporting legacy. It’s a venue that’s seen generations of matches and celebrations.
