Established in 1996 the Carl-Bechstein-Gymnasium stands proudly. It’s a testament to Erkner’s commitment to education. The school is named after the renowned German piano maker Carl Bechstein. His legacy resonates within these walls.
Before the Carl-Bechstein-Gymnasium existed this site had a rich history. The original school building was constructed between 1878 and 1879. It served various educational purposes. For example from 1945 to 1981 it was a gymnasium. Later it became the Heinrich-Heine-Polytechnic High School. In 1993 it transformed into a gymnasium again. Finally in 1999 it received its current name. The adjacent Theodor-Fontane-Elementary School building was incorporated in 1995.
The Carl-Bechstein-Gymnasium has undergone significant expansion. A new auditorium was inaugurated in 2005. Buildings B and A followed in 2013 and 2018 respectively. The new building A houses a large auditorium accommodating around 450 people. This expansion reflects the growing student population.
The school offers a unique educational experience. Students can join special gifted and talented classes starting from the fifth grade. This is unusual as the secondary education usually starts in seventh grade in Brandenburg. These classes include an orchestra program. Students learn one or two instruments. The program aims for proficiency within six months.
A wide range of subjects is offered. In addition to English students can study French Latin Russian and Spanish. A third language is possible from tenth grade. The school is an open all-day school. Many extracurricular activities are available. These support personal development.

Students decorate them with their artwork. Red doors symbolize appreciation. They represent the energy and dynamism of youth. Modernity and purism are reflected in the design.

The school has partnerships including one with the University of Potsdam. It even has a student company called CIFY. The student company designs produces and sells products including school related merchandise. The school also benefits from the Carl-Bechstein-Gymnasium Erkner Support Association. The association supports projects such as language trips. They also fundraise annually through a sponsored run.
