Carved from Muschel limestone, the Caritas-Brunnen stands as a testament to compassion. The Caritas-Brunnen, right here on Karl-Sobkowski-Straße, has watched over this neighborhood since 1925. It was a time of growth for Frankfurt (Oder), as the “Am Grünen Weg” district was being built. The renowned sculptor Waldemar Lemke was commissioned to create the Caritas-Brunnen. He poured his heart into crafting the touching scene you see before you: a mother surrounded by three children. Lemke’s work beautifully illustrates the fountain’s name, “Caritas,” which means charity or love. It’s a poignant reminder of the care and support that bind a community together.
