“Imagine transforming Kabul into a mega-city.” That’s precisely the vision that fuels the Capital Region Development Authority.
The Capital Region Development Authority, or CRIDA, isn’t just another government office. It’s an independent entity tasked with nothing less than reshaping Afghanistan’s capital region. CRIDA evolved from the Dehsabz City Development Authority in June 2016. This transformation reflects an expanded mandate. CRIDA now oversees development across the entire capital region.
Think of the capital region as more than just Kabul. It includes the provinces of Wardak, Logar, Kapisa, and Parwan. This encompasses a vast area of over 7,735 square kilometers. The goal is to create a safe urban environment. This addresses challenges from the ever-increasing population. Concentrated economic activity also plays a major role.
CRIDA has a grand vision. It aims to transform the capital region into a clean and environmentally friendly mega-city. They are also creating a cultured hub for industry, commerce, sports, and tourism. The ultimate goal is a self-reliant and sustainable metropolitan area. This new city has high-standard infrastructure and facilities. A healthy physical environment is also key.
But CRIDA’s ambitions go beyond infrastructure. They want to build a diverse community free of ethnic, linguistic, racial, and religious prejudices. CRIDA also wants to promote urban culture. They enhance the standard of life throughout the capital region. They develop cities through decentralization. This balanced development protects the originality, historical value, and organic linkages with existing Kabul.
President Ghani emphasized CRIDA’s role. He instructed them to implement projects effectively. CRIDA undertakes projects in health, education, and reconstruction. They also work on historical sites and the airport. These projects align with the President’s vision.
CRIDA first analyzes problems and needs. Then, they implement projects with low cost and on exact time. This also ensures a better result. CRIDA completed 50 percent of the renovation work on the Eidgah mosque. They also renovated the green area and garden of the mosque.
The Capital Region Development Authority strives to create a symbol of national unity. It is more than just building a city. It is building a future.
