Around 1966, the chapel and the adjacent convent were passed to the Dominican Order, the Provincia Dominicana de San Luis Beltrán. It carried the monikers “Capilla del Carmen” and “Capilla San Martín de Porres,” echoes of its past and the communities it served. Fast forward to more recent times, and the Capilla Nuestra Señora de la Fortaleza faced a new challenge. After being closed for over two decades, the chapel was in dire need of restoration. In a collaborative effort, Comfenalco Valle Delagente and the Dominican Order undertook a nine-month project to revitalize this historic gem. The restoration breathed new life into the Capilla Nuestra Señora de la Fortaleza. It preserved its original architectural features while also incorporating modern elements. The project also provided over 150 jobs, contributing to the local community. Today, the Capilla Nuestra Señora de la Fortaleza stands as a beacon of hope and faith in the heart of Cali’s historic center. It welcomes visitors and locals alike, its doors open for Sunday Mass and other religious celebrations. The echoes of prayers, whispered over a century, continue to resonate within its walls.
