How about stepping back to the early 16th century? The Capela do Outeiro has a story that begins then. This chapel, located in a serene spot, holds secrets within its walls.

The Capela do Outeiro was restored between 1909 and 1938. It’s likely the wooden choir was replaced with concrete during this time. Imagine the artisans carefully making these changes. Their work shaped what we see today.

The Capela do Outeiro stands on a village square on a higher level. This gives it a special beauty. Its elevated position makes it a prominent landmark.

Inside the Capela do Outeiro, a small image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição is a highlight. It dates from the Baroque period. A statue of Santa Rufina is here too. It came from the hermitage of Santa Rufina e Santa Justa. There is also a replica of Santa Justa. The original was in very bad condition.

Two small shrines flank the chancel arch in Capela do Outeiro. They house the images of Santa Justa and Santa Rufina. Look up at the chancel ceiling. It is a false barrel vault. It’s painted blue and decorated with stars.

The altarpiece in the chancel features a perfect arch. Within this is a shrine. A second arch adorns it. Inside this space rests an image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. It is thought to be from 1930-40. The tabernacle has gilded carvings.

From the chancel, you can access the sacristy of Capela do Outeiro. Notice the small arcaz paramenteiro. Also see the stoup. It is a half-sphere shape.

Quinta do Outeiro is nearby. It offers a unique experience. It has a relaxing atmosphere. You can enjoy views of the Douro Valley. The cultivated land spans about 5 hectares.

Quinta do Outeiro has comfortable amenities. One room is wheelchair accessible. There is a pool and agricultural fields. It also features a wine cellar and a bower. You might participate in harvesting crops. You can also visit the Capela da Nossa Senhora do Bom Sucesso. The location is suitable for weddings. Wi-Fi is available and the gardens are historic.

The Capela do Outeiro is more than just a building. It is a testament to faith. It is a blend of art and history. It’s a place where stories linger. Take a moment to appreciate the details. Feel the history around you.
