“Fifty thousand euros!” That’s quite an investment for a chapel, isn’t it? Right here before us stands the Capela de São Caetano, a testament to faith and community collaboration. Let’s uncover its story.

The Capela de São Caetano is located in Vilar do Paraíso. It underwent significant rehabilitation. The Câmara Municipal de Gaia contributed around 50 thousand euros for the work. The reopening was a grand affair.

The Capela de São Caetano’s story is one of devotion. It’s also a story of community. The chapel’s history is intertwined with the Festa em Honra de S. Caetano e Bom Jesus do Monte.

The re-inauguration of the Capela de São Caetano was celebrated with a special mass. D. António Augusto de Oliveira Azevedo, the Auxiliary Bishop of Porto, presided over it. This shows the church’s importance.

Beyond the religious ceremony, the festival offered entertainment. The band “Delta 7” performed. “Banda R” also took to the stage. “Batida de Coco” added to the festive atmosphere. Maria Lisboa’s concert on Saturday night was a highlight. Music filled the air.

The Festa em Honra de S. Caetano e Bom Jesus do Monte also featured a procession. It included a dazzling fireworks display.

Interestingly, there’s another Capela de São Caetano in Monção. Tradition says Francisco Vaz built it in the mid-18th century. He promised to build it if he recovered from malaria. He contracted the disease during his travels. The Companhia de Jesus remodeled it later. It is dedicated to Caetano de Thiene.

Also, there is a Capela de São Caetano in Coronel Xavier Chaves-MG. The Prefeitura Municipal listed it for its cultural importance. Residents built it in the 1930s. The chapel measures 60m x 25m. Its front faces the Serra de São José. It has a simple architectural design and a cross-shaped plan.

Moreover, the Revista Raízes dedicated an issue to the history of the Paróquia São Caetano. The first chapel was built in 1717 by the Benedictines. They maintained a farm there. The professor José de Souza Martins gave a lecture on the theme.

The Capela de São Caetano here in Vilar do Paraíso represents community spirit. It shows the enduring power of faith. Its restoration ensures it will continue to be a place of worship. It will be a gathering place for years to come. Take a moment to appreciate this.
