Was it the scent of sea salt or the rumble of passing cars? I can’t say what first drew me to Capaci. But here I stand, ready to tell you the tale of this Sicilian town. Capaci, a name etched in history, is more than just a dot on the map of the Metropolitan City of Palermo. It’s a town of stories, resilience, and beauty, located on Sicily’s vibrant coast. In 2011, Capaci was home to over 11,000 souls, a testament to its enduring appeal. Capaci is a town intertwined with the A29 autostrada, a vital artery connecting Palermo to Punta Raisi Airport. This very road bears witness to a dark day in Italian history. On May 23, 1992, the Capaci bombing shook the nation. Anti-Mafia judge Giovanni Falcone and his companions were tragically assassinated in an explosion that reverberated through the community. A memorial now stands at the site, a somber reminder of the fight against organized crime. But Capaci is more than this tragedy. It’s a town of vibrant life, a place where the golden sands of its beaches meet the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. Imagine strolling along the coastline, the sun warming your skin.
