“A world where we are all believers unified in one heart and the mind of Christ.” That’s the inspiring mission that guides Canyon View Church of Christ. Here at Canyon View Christian Fellowship Church we find a welcoming church family.
Canyon View Church believes in the power of Christ. This power works through ordinary people. They accomplish extraordinary things. Canyon View has a simple faith. They seek the simple truths of the Bible. They call themselves simply Christians. The members are lovers of the Word of God. They do their best to model their lives after Christ. He is their Savior.
Canyon View Church of Christ came into existence in 1994. The Clairemont church came together with the Pacific Beach church. This union was a wonderful example of the unity that Christ wanted. He wanted his followers to model this unity. Since then the Canyon View family has grown steadily. New Christians are added to God’s family almost daily. Canyon View is passionate about the Great Commission. This is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew. It calls Christians to go out and make disciples of all people. They baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They teach them how to obey the words of Christ.
Canyon View Church has a vision. They want to reach the many in San Diego and abroad. Many do not yet know of Christ’s love. They accomplish this task through God’s power. They also use the work of many different ministry teams.
Canyon View Church of Christ has a people-oriented Christianity. One way they live out their mission is through community involvement. Each year around Christmas they host Winter Wonderland. They invite families with their children to take part. Real snow is shipped in to make snow-runs on their property. Kids come and sled. They also do a live Nativity scene. This has real actors and barnyard animals. A reader reads the story of Christ’s birth. They sing familiar songs about the birth of Christ. It is a fabulous time for everyone. They have done it every year.
Pastor Barry Day once took a motorcycle trip. He rode from San Ysidro to Oregon. He stopped at a church in Oregon because it was raining. A rough-looking man approached him. He wore a huge cross. The man showed Pastor Barry pictures of his life. His life included crime, drugs, motorcycle crashes, and jail. It made Pastor Barry realize something. He sometimes disregards people who live rough lives. But Jesus hung out with those people. He wanted to save them. It changed Pastor Barry’s perspective.
