Çankaya Üniversitesi was founded on July 9 1997 by the Sıtkı Alp Education Foundation. The university accepted its first students in the 1997-1998 academic year.
Çankaya Üniversitesi has two campuses. One is here in Balgat. The other is on Eskişehir Road at the 29th kilometer mark. The university’s goal is to provide high quality education. It aims to meet world standards.
The language of instruction is English. This applies to all departments except for a few. These exceptions are the Faculty of Law. Also exceptions are the Vocational School of Justice and the Department of Public Relations and Advertising.
Çankaya Üniversitesi offers a wide range of academic programs. There are five faculties with 23 departments. Also there are two vocational schools with three programs. Additionally there are two institutes. These offer both undergraduate and graduate education.
Each year hundreds of students enroll at Çankaya Üniversitesi. They gain admission through the Higher Education Institutions Examination. In 2011 about 700 students enrolled. With new departments and increased capacity that number was expected to exceed 1000.
Çankaya Üniversitesi offers various scholarship opportunities. These scholarships aim to improve education quality. They also reward successful students. The goal is to ensure equal opportunities in higher education. Scholarships include sports achievement scholarships and science scholarships. There are also academic achievement scholarships.
Students must pass an English proficiency exam at the start of the term. Alternatively they can submit an international exam score like TOEFL. Those who fail the proficiency exam attend preparatory classes. The required English level for graduation is upper-intermediate.
The Balgat campus houses the Institute of Science and Technology. Also here is the Institute of Social Sciences. Graduate programs are conducted at this campus. The central campus was built to meet needs the Balgat campus couldn’t.
The central campus groundbreaking was in 2007. Koksay Toptan laid the foundation. He was the speaker of the parliament. The campus opened in 2011.
The Faculty of Architecture is located here at the Balgat campus. So too is the Faculty of Law. Other faculties and departments are at the central campus.
Çankaya Üniversitesi has many academic units. There are five faculties. There are also two vocational schools. These schools have 23 departments. Additionally there are seven research centers. Also there are two institutes. Finally there is a preparatory school.
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences covers 3394 square meters. The Faculty of Law covers 1539 square meters. The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences covers 3593 square meters.
The Faculty of Engineering has three blocks. The total covered area is 10768 square meters.
Çankaya Üniversitesi has over 70 student clubs. These clubs organize events and seminars. They also arrange various performances.
The Çankaya Üniversitesi Sports Club was founded in 1986. It was first named Arıspor. The women’s basketball team competes in the Turkish Women’s Basketball League.
Çankaya Üniversitesi actively participates in the Erasmus program. This program enhances international cooperation. It also promotes student exchange programs.
