Did you know that Canarsie Church of Christ has roots going back to 1942? That’s when a series of tent meetings transformed the corner of Avenue L and Remsen Avenue. Reverend Hans Waldvogel of the Ridgewood Pentecostal Church led these gatherings. Many found faith and the Holy Spirit during those meetings. A church building was subsequently purchased establishing Canarsie Full Gospel Chapel.
Canarsie Church of Christ isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith and community. For over 75 years this church has shared the Gospel. It’s a place where generations have found solace and spiritual guidance. Its commitment to children’s ministry Bible classes evangelism and world missions remains strong.
The church’s history intertwines with other churches. It has close ties to the Ridgewood Pentecostal Church. Many other churches in the metropolitan area and beyond stem from their ministry. They even have access to a fellowship camp at Brant Lake in the Adirondacks. Pilgrim Camp provides a place for spiritual renewal and summer vacations for people from various churches across the country and internationally.
Pastor Kenneth Friedmann has served Canarsie Church of Christ since 1982. He started as youth pastor and associate pastor before becoming senior pastor. His vision is for everyone who enters the church to experience Jesus’ presence. His wife Lillian assists in music and teaching. Their children are also actively involved in the worship ministry. The church’s mission is clear to provide an opportunity for people to experience God’s presence. They aim for salvation through Christ and fellowship in daily life.
Spirit-led worship blends hymns and contemporary songs. Prayer and seeking bring healing and anointing. The church believes in being channels of blessing preparing for Christ’s return.
