“Future-proof school infrastructure.” It sounds like something from a science fiction novel. But it’s a reality here at Campus Unna. Completed in December 2022 this educational facility represents a new approach to learning and sustainability.
The Campus Unna houses three institutions. These are the Jakob-Muth-Schule, the Sauerland-Hellweg-Kolleg, and the Märkische Berufskolleg. This creates a diverse and collaborative educational environment. Imagine students from different backgrounds and disciplines learning side by side. It is a place of shared knowledge.
Let’s talk about the building itself. The Campus Unna spans 7700 square meters. It has classrooms, subject rooms, teaching rooms and STEM classes. Also present are differentiation rooms, workshops, teaching kitchens and an auditorium with a canteen. This is not just a school. This is a comprehensive learning environment.
Sustainability is at the heart of the Campus Unna design. The building was constructed as a solid structure with a clinker facade. The aim was to be almost CO2-neutral using sustainable building technology. Composite building materials were avoided. This improves the building’s recyclability. An ice energy storage system and concrete core activation are also in place. A ventilation system in the ceiling enables the use of preconditioned outside air. This all contributes to heating and cooling the building. The exterior space reuses existing materials. It also preserves the sycamore trees on the site.
But sustainability isn’t the only focus. The Campus Unna prioritizes a comfortable learning environment. Acoustic measures were implemented to ensure good room acoustics in the classrooms. Sorp 10 sound absorbers were placed in the center of the ceiling. Perforated plaster ceilings were arranged in a ring. These measures achieve a reverberation time that meets high requirements.
The interior design of Campus Unna uses a calm color concept with strong accents. The spacious outdoor area and varied lounge areas offer conditions for relaxed learning. Zoning and high-contrast marked areas in front of the rooms. These areas also appear on the walls to contribute to good orientation.
The Campus Unna is more than just a building. It’s a symbol of Unna’s commitment to education and sustainability. It combines modern design with environmentally conscious technology. The Campus Unna offers students a place to learn and grow. It paves the way for a brighter future.
