This campground is nestled at the foot of the Gaisberg mountain. It lies in the Aigen nature park, offering a peaceful retreat. The park boasts paths, streams, grottos and waterfalls. It is a true recreational area.
The Getzinger family has been running Camping Schloss Aigen since 1959. Gretl Getzinger and her family lease the land from the Revertera family. Her daughter Eva is currently in charge. Gretl says that Camping Schloss Aigen is a very traditional campground. It offers an authentic camping experience like in the old days.
The Aigen campground provides space for 200 cars. The camping season runs from May 1st to September 30th. Over the years, camping has changed dramatically. Senior manager Gretl Getzinger recalls that guests used to arrive with cars and tents. Now they come with huge caravans.
Camping is booming. The Getzingers welcome guests from all over the world. They have many regular guests. These regulars come mainly from Northern Europe including Germany, Denmark and Scandinavia. One year, the campground even welcomed guests from Turkey and Lithuania for the first time. Once, there were guests from 37 nations. Many local guests also visit Camping Schloss Aigen. Some stay only one night before continuing south.
Over the years, many odd things have happened. Gretl Getzinger tells a funny story. Once, a man sat alone in the outdoor dining area. It was raining heavily. He enjoyed his spaghetti. In one hand, he held a fork. In the other, an umbrella kept him dry. Another time, a tent remained empty for a long time. The Getzingers later learned that the owner was in prison.
Guests enjoy the views of Salzburg, the Untersberg mountain, and the sunsets. The campground’s proximity to Aigen Park is another draw. Many guests stroll in the woods. They explore the grottos and waterfalls.
Aigen Park has existed since 1780. Campers can enjoy Salzburg’s nature there. Information boards guide locals and guests through the park’s history. In the past, painters and poets gathered here. They used the park as inspiration for their work. Popular spots include the Hexenloch, the Jägerhöhle and the Gilowskyhöhle.
Camping Schloss Aigen is located near Schloss Aigen. Schloss Aigen is an old noble residence. It gives the campground its name. The Revertera family has owned the estate since 1921. The castle is surrounded by green spaces. It is undergoing renovations. A restaurant called Gasthof Schloss Aigen is located in one of the castle’s outbuildings.
