The area’s history stretches back centuries. In the mid-5th century, Clodion, a Frankish chief, seized the area. He captured Camphin-en-Pévèle around 430 AD. A plaque marks the old Roman road from Tournai to Estaires. It’s on the paved sector of la Justice. Camphin-en-Pévèle also played a role in the Battle of Bouvines. The French army crossed the Marque river. They used the Bouvines bridge between Cysoing and Sainghin-en-Mélantois.
