Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Center

Tucked away on the Trinity University campus is the Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Center. It’s part of the Ruth Taylor Fine Arts Center, a hub of creativity and artistic expression. The Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Building, along with the Jim and Janet Dicke Art Building and the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall, underwent a major renovation in 2006. The project, overseen by Kell Muñoz Architects, added 20,000 square feet of space to the center. It also earned a merit award for design from the City of San Antonio in 2008. The center is home to Trinity University’s music department, established way back in 1869 when the university itself was founded. Inside the Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Center, aspiring musicians hone their craft. They practice in state-of-the-art facilities, preparing for performances in the beautiful Ruth Taylor Recital Hall, a 320-seat venue perfect for intimate concerts. The music department offers a variety of programs. Students can pursue a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Music with specializations in performance, composition, or a five-year teacher certification program. For those interested in sharing their music with a larger audience, there’s the Laurie Auditorium, a grand space with 2,700 seats. This impressive venue hosts not only campus events, but also community performances. This makes the Campbell and Eloise Smith Music Center not just a place of learning, but also a vital part of San Antonio’s cultural scene.
