A weathered wooden cross stands tall. It marks the entrance to Calivigny Gospel Hall. Its story whispers of resilience and faith.

This isn’t just a building. Calivigny Gospel Hall is a testament to enduring faith. Established in the early 1900s it began as a humble thatched hut. Imagine the small group of believers. They gathered there for worship. They hailed from Laura Corinth Calivigny Marian Westerhall and surrounding areas. Among them were Jack Banfield Walter Banfield Evans Rouse and T.A Gilbert. Their simple devotion laid the foundation for this vibrant community.

Hurricane Janet struck in 1955. It destroyed their wooden structure. Yet their faith remained unbroken. They rebuilt. They constructed another building in the late 1950s. Support poured in from believers in the United States and Grenada itself. This building stood strong for many years. However Hurricane Ivan in 2004 brought devastation once more. The building was destroyed.

The congregation didn’t falter. They found temporary refuge at St George’s Gospel Hall. Then a significant opportunity arose. Lewis Rouse offered space in a building. It had been the brainchild of the late E.G. Rouse. The Assembly met there until July 15 2007. A new sanctuary was dedicated. The groundbreaking ceremony for this new facility took place on September 11 2005. Work began the very next day. The project faced many hurdles. But Oliver Finlay a member of Calivigny Gospel Hall stepped up. He volunteered his services to oversee and manage the entire project.

Today Calivigny Gospel Hall thrives. It boasts a vibrant Sunday School Youth Group and Women’s Fellowship. Their annual concert-style program is a highlight. The Sunday School has nurtured generations of children. Families like the Banfields the Rouses the Smiths the Neptunes and the Simons have played vital roles in its history. Many offspring continue their family’s legacy in leadership roles within the assembly.

Calivigny Gospel Hall is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a living embodiment of faith. It’s a story of perseverance. It’s a community bound by unwavering belief. A testament to the power of prayer and the enduring spirit of the people of Grenada. It stands as a beacon of hope a symbol of faith that has weathered the storms of time and nature. The joy of the Lord truly is their strength.
