Calvary Chapel of Vista began as Tri-City Calvary Chapel in 1980. Pastor Chuck Eason was the founder. In 1982 Pastor Chuck felt a call to return to the mission field. Pastor Brian Brodersen took over as lead pastor. He came from Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. About 50 people formed the small congregation at that time.
In 1984 the church name changed to Calvary Chapel of Vista. Under Pastor Brian’s leadership the church grew. In 1987 it moved to its current facility at 885 E. Vista Way. The church was previously located on Hacienda Drive.
In 1989 Brian and a small team ventured to Eastern Europe. They wanted to see what the Lord might want to do. That trip resulted in two church plants. One was in Vajta, Hungary. The other was in Suboticia, Yugoslavia. Under Pastor Brian’s leadership the church continued to grow. It planted churches around the United States and the world.
In 1996 Pastor Brian and his family felt called to plant a new Calvary Chapel in London. The leadership team invited Pastor Rob Salvato to take over as lead pastor in Vista. Pastor Rob had been a youth pastor under Brian from 1985 to 1991. The church had sent him out to plant a new Calvary Chapel in Oregon. Pastor Rob accepted the lead pastor role in August 1996.
Calvary Vista continues to be a spiritual influence in North County San Diego. It also plants churches. To date 31 churches have been planted. They are in 10 different states and eight different countries. Calvary Vista is known for its casual atmosphere. It is also known for heartfelt worship and brotherly love.
