Founded in 1961 Calvary Bible Church of Compton stands as a testament to faith and community. It all began humbly in the living room of Reverend Charles R Bereal and his wife Avis. Their vision was simple a welcoming church open to all denominations. Four Square AME Baptist COGIC Assembly of God everyone was invited. This inclusive spirit was a cornerstone of Calvary’s identity.
Reverend Bereal a Baptist Minister since age 19 led the church for over five decades. His dedication shaped the church’s character. He led through challenges even during a global pandemic when many churches closed. He upheld the church’s inclusive mission. His legacy lives on.
A special revival came about due to a family in crisis. They sought Reverend Bereal’s prayers. Their remarkable salvation sparked a powerful revival. Compton High School teens filled the Bereals’ living room nightly. Many of those teens went on to become pastors preachers and evangelists. Their faith started in that small living room on Tichenor Street.
Calvary Bible Church of Compton continues to serve. It remains a beacon of hope in Compton. Under Pastor Brent Paysinger Sr the church looks towards the future. It follows the founding principles of inclusion faith and community. It serves as a place of spiritual growth and community support. It’s a place where history and faith intertwine. It continues to impact lives in Compton. This is Calvary Bible Church of Compton. A legacy of faith.
