Have you ever wondered about the history of this towering structure? It’s Calvary Baptist Church and it’s a beacon of faith in San Antonio. The story of Calvary Baptist Church is one of unwavering faith and dedication. The church was founded in 1943 by Reverend Ennis L. Roberts. He started with just a few members, holding their first meetings in a home on Gevers Street, in front of a church in the heart of the city. The church’s first building was a small edifice on Burleson Street, where the cornerstone was laid on April 4, 1944. Reverend Roberts served the church faithfully for 23 years, a true testament to his commitment, until December 6, 1966, when he passed away. The church has seen many changes over the years, including multiple renovations and expansions. Under the leadership of Reverend Robert Miller, Jr., who became pastor in 1966, Calvary Baptist Church continued to grow and was completely renovated, adding classrooms and a cafeteria. This church is a community hub, with a variety of ministries to serve the needs of its members. Calvary Baptist Church is a place where the warmth of fellowship is as much a part of the experience as the spiritual nourishment. It’s a reminder that faith can persevere and endure, leaving a lasting legacy of hope and inspiration.
