Is that a carpet snake? Caboolture has a long and fascinating history. It actually takes its name from the Yugarabul language. The word “Kabultur” means “place of the carpet snake”. Before European settlement, the Gubbi Gubbi people were the traditional custodians of the land. They lived off the richness of the land, harvesting bush food and seafood. They also held annual Bunya Festivals to feast on the nuts of the Bunya Pine. European settlement of Caboolture began in 1842. The town became a vital stopover for miners traveling to the Gympie goldfields. Caboolture’s growth was further spurred by the arrival of the railway line in 1888. Today, Caboolture stands as a testament to its rich and diverse past. It is a thriving town where the stories of its Indigenous heritage and colonial past intertwine.
