“This building looks like a giant concrete Lego set,” a young boy whispered to his mother. He pointed excitedly at the C-Gebäude, its raw concrete facade and bold geometric lines dominating the landscape. Perhaps he didn’t realize it, but the C-Gebäude was indeed a masterpiece of modern architecture. Located in the heart of Mannheim’s trendy Jungbusch district, the C-Gebäude is a relatively recent addition to the cityscape, completed in 2016. Don’t let its age fool you though. The C-Gebäude quickly established itself as a vibrant hub for Mannheim’s burgeoning creative class. Originally a start-up center, it now serves as a campus for the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University. Within its award-winning walls, students learn, collaborate, and innovate in fields ranging from design to software development.
