Burnt Fork Creek is located in a DeKalb neighborhood. It is an important waterway that supports various wildlife. Birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and mammals call this place home.
Since 2021, the creek’s seasonal changes and water flow have been documented. A time-lapse project captures these variations. Mason Mill Park manages the project. This provides a visual record of the creek’s ever-changing environment.
The beavers play a significant role here. They are constantly building dams with sticks and mud. Their construction efforts are focused about 50 feet upstream from the bridge. The dams they build can cause flooding. Sometimes the flooding washes away their hard work.
Citizens are encouraged to help record the changes. This monitoring effort uses Chronolog photo stations along the South Peachtree Creek Trail. The trail connects Mason Mill Park, Medlock Park, the Leafmore neighborhood, and Emory University.
