Bundamba was once known as a place of stone axes, a source of raw material for the tools used by the indigenous Ugarapul people. Over time, the name shifted – first to Bundanba, then to Bundamba – but the connection to the land remained. With the arrival of settlers, Bundamba became a hub of agricultural activity, cotton plantations thriving under a generous government bonus. By the late 1800s, the land whispered a new story; coal was discovered, mines bloomed, and brickworks, mills, and workshops started to dot the landscape. The echoes of cotton pickers faded, replaced by the rhythmic clang of industry. Today, Bundamba stands as a testament to transformation, a blend of history and modern life, with a bustling main street that still reflects the echoes of its past.
