Bukhansan National Park was designated in 1983. It is a rare urban nature park. The Ui Ranger Station marks the beginning of a popular route to the summit. The Bukhansan Ui Station opened in 2017. It makes accessing this trail incredibly convenient.

From the station, a short walk leads you here. Passing a small plaza, you arrive at the Bukhansan National Park Ui Ranger Station. This is more than just a checkpoint. It’s your last chance to gather information before the ascent.

The Ui route is especially scenic. Hikers can follow the road towards Doseonsa Temple. For those who prefer a more direct path, a walking trail begins just to the right after the ranger station. The trail meanders alongside the road. It offers a gentler climb.

Doseonsa Temple is worth a detour. After exploring the temple, return to the car park. From there, signs point the way to Baegundae. This is the highest of Bukhansan’s three peaks. The trail to Baegundae offers stunning views and varied terrain.

The hike can be enjoyed in any season. Winter requires preparation. Temperatures at the top can plummet far below zero. Ice spikes are essential for navigating icy conditions. Spring offers pleasant weather. Cherry blossoms add to the scenery. Summer can be sweaty. Bring plenty of water.

As you ascend, you’ll pass a police mountain rescue hut. You’ll also see the towering Insubong peak. Eventually, you’ll reach a shelter. This is a perfect spot for a break. The final push to the summit involves a steep climb to Wimun Gate.

The last section requires some scrambling. Fixed chains assist hikers over the rocky dome. At the summit, a panoramic view of Seoul awaits. You can see the river winding through the city. Namsan and Seoul Tower are visible to the south.

The Bukhansan National Park Ui Ranger Station is not just a starting point. It’s the beginning of an unforgettable journey. It’s a chance to connect with nature. It is also a place to challenge yourself physically. The views from the top are a just reward. They make all the effort worthwhile.
