What’s that inviting aroma? The scent of freshly grilled fish drifts on the air, beckoning you towards Buhnenhaus Camping. Situated right here on a peninsula where the Havel River meets the Breitlingsee, Buhnenhaus Camping is not just a place to park your caravan, it’s a portal to a world of relaxation and history. This picturesque site is perfectly positioned on the Havel Cycle Route, a 371km path renowned as one of Germany’s most scenic. But Buhnenhaus Camping is much more than just a pretty spot. This very ground was once home to Albert Voigt, affectionately nicknamed “Seebär” (Sea Bear) by locals around 1890. He had a simple yet ingenious business idea – sell refreshments to the steady stream of walkers and day-trippers drawn to the beauty of the Havel. Brick by brick, a charming establishment took shape, evolving into a welcoming restaurant with a bustling beer garden and even a steamboat pier. For decades, it thrived as a beloved destination, only to fall into disrepair in the years following German reunification. Yet, like a phoenix from the ashes, Buhnenhaus Camping was brought back to life. Some 15 years ago, the site was painstakingly restored from its dilapidated state, maintaining as much of the original charm as possible. Today, the spirit of “Seebär” Voigt’s legacy lives on in the revitalized Buhnenhaus Camping, a testament to resilience and the enduring allure of a scenic spot by the water.
