Beulah First Missionary Baptist Church opened its doors in August 1913. Rev David Jones was the leader. For 95 years Buelah First Baptist has been in operation. Its original location was in historical Paradise Valley. That was on Watson Street near Hastings Street.

Since then Buelah has moved several times. It moved to Erskine Street near Hastings. Then it went to Elliot and Rivard under Rev Charles Butler. A third pastor Rev Sam Robinson took over. The church moved to Russell and Illinois and later to Riopelle and Illinois.

In 1930 Rev Fred Williams became Buelah’s fourth pastor. He moved the church to 946 E Willis. Under Rev Williams’ leadership membership grew to 75. Rev Williams served until his death in 1960. Later that year the church moved to 3901 Moran. In 1961 Rev James Wray became the fifth pastor. After seven years Rev Wray died. In 1969 Rev Robert L Ware became the sixth pastor. That same year the church became Buelah First Missionary Baptist.

Today Buelah First Missionary Baptist Church is on 4643 Moran in Detroit. The younger members may not know the long history. However the value of Buelah is apparent to all.

One young member James Franklin III said “I like Buelah because we can play and learn about Jesus”. He knew Jesus is our savior. He died on the cross for our sins and he loves us.

According to its members Buelah has always been a refuge. It is for those without family direction or safety. Members say Buelah has been like a family to them. It provides the essentials to grow spiritually and in every aspect of life.

Buelah holds services every Sunday. Morning bible study starts at 9:20 am. Worship service begins at 11:00 am. It also holds weekly bible study and prayer meeting.

Buelah has two missionaries in Ethiopia. It holds an annual back-to-school fair. It also organizes a financial aid seminar and a summer bible study program.

Pastor Robert L Ware wished to see Buelah’s influence be worldwide. One member David L Holmes Jr said Buelah has been a family to him. He doesn’t know what he’d be doing without Pastor Ware his wife and the Buelah family.
