Climb the stairs now. Here lies Wat Phra Phutthabat Si Roi. It means Temple of the Four Buddha Footprints. This temple is not just a place of worship. It is a journey through time. It’s a testament to faith. It’s nestled in the hills of the Mae Rim region. This temple is a popular pilgrimage destination for Thai people. Foreigners may not frequent it as much.

Imagine pilgrims finding these footprints long ago. This discovery led to the temple’s creation. The temple is the result of an ancient Buddhist tradition. The tradition imprints Buddha statue feet on wet ground. This leaves a lasting mark. For over two thousand years, followers of Buddhism created these prints. They symbolize peace and enlightenment. People visit to find these qualities themselves.

Let’s explore the temple grounds now. You will see various temple buildings. You will also see Buddha statues and gardens. The most significant footprint stretches almost three meters. The other three have more realistic proportions. Visitors offer flowers. They attach gold leaves to the imprints. They pray for their wishes to come true.

An impressive arch marks the entrance. It is flanked by two gold and black nagas. These serpent-like creatures guard the temple. They prevent evil spirits from entering. They also symbolize water and fertility.

Look uphill to the left now. You will see the actual Wat Phra Phutthabat Si Roi. It is a richly ornamented golden temple. Intertwined gold and black nagas guard it. The temple’s construction keeps it cool inside. Chained balls surround the golden temple. They are heavily decorated with gold leaves. You may also see wishing wells with coins inside.

Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi is a landmark for pilgrims. Within the monastery complex are many religious sites. They are there to remind us of the Lord Buddha. One such site is Pha Khao Yen. It is the dining area of the Buddha and his disciples. Another is the Sacred Pond. The Buddha washed his alms-bowl in this pond. A Naga Serpent watched the Buddha with loyalty. Visitors throw glass marbles into the pond. They believe this worships the Naga.

The Buddhas’ footprints installed at this sacred place are special. The first footprint belongs to Kakusandha Buddha. It is the largest. It measures six meters in length. The second belongs to Konagamana Buddha. It measures 4.5 meters in length. The third belongs to Kassapa Buddha. It also measures 4.5 meters long. The fourth belongs to Gautama Buddha. This is the smallest mark at about two meters in length.

Remember King Naresuan of Ayutthaya. He visited the site. He worshipped the Buddhas’ footprint. He removed his accessories including his breast chain and apparel. He placed them within the Buddhas’ footprint. He offered flowers, incense sticks, candles and popped rice.

Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi offers a pleasant journey. It leads to a picturesque spot in the hills. The Buddha footprints guarantee an enjoyable time. Take a moment to reflect on the temple’s history. Consider its spiritual significance. Feel the peace. Carry its essence with you.
